Oriental Marina, NC

"What a quaint little harbor town" falls out of your mouth as you walk the streets of this town of 900.  It's also a friendly place where everybody waves.

Oriental is known as the sailing capital of North Carolina.  It sits on the Neuse River which is the widest river in the US.  Most of the boats in the marina are sailing vessels.  In fact, the majority of the boats in marinas are sailboats.  Why?  People LOVE to sail and they keep their boats as long as they can.  As an older woman recently told me, what converts a sailboat owner to a motor boat owner are "birthdays"!

Just a cute tin home.

They sell fresh seafood.  Don't you love the sign.  BTW, can you tell I am into signs?

I believe this is an example of exotic revival architecture as demonstrated at the corner between the windows.  Don't recall ever seeing this style before.

Owner did a nice job converting this house which she lived in at one point into a restaurant - Village Food Emporium.  Had a very tasty breakfast which included pumpkin pancakes.
