Cleveland Skyline
Rock lined entrance to Rocky River (left side of picture) where Bill grew up and part of the Cleveland Metroparks System.
Million dollar homes lining Lake Erie
Across from our slip is a home nestled in the trees at the top of the steps. I would make this trek only once a day. If I forgot to bring something down to the boat.....c'est la vie!
Glenn and Pam Waggoner made our stay at The Cleveland Yachting Club all possible. We can't thank them enough for setting this all up. Glenn (they are Camano owners as well) had sent out an email to their power fleet members to let them know who we were, where we were from and the reason why we were there, that we would be staying for a couple of days and to please say "hi" should they run into us. We had a handful of people come up to us and ask us if we were Glenn's guests. Can't say enough good things about Glenn and his wife (enjoyed a tasty lunch with them), fellow members and the staff. All of them made us feel welcome.
Flower filled land based entrance into the yacht club, but first you have to get past the guard at the gate house.
At the top of the picture is Lake Erie. The channel to the left leads to additional yacht club slips and homes that line the channel. To the right is the main entrance to the yacht club slips.
Heading over the bridge to the town of Rocky River we stop to admire the homes on right.
and to the left.
Outdoor terrace dining area at the yacht club.
Olympic size pool.
The slide is a new addition to the pool this year. I wouldn't be surprised if some adults took advantage of this new addition as well. Well, you know, just to show the kids it's safe.
What a fabulous job they did updating the Topside Bar and Grill.
We were treated to a beer by one of the members and decided to cozy up to the bar and relax in their "swing" chairs. We had a handful of additional people come by and welcome us!
One of the homes on our walk up to Rocky River's old downtown area.
We know a couple people who could hang this sign by their front door, too!
Old River in downtown Rocky River features boutiques and upscale eateries.
The weathered wooden doors beckons us to come eat and dine with them.
Outdoor seating.
The statue deserves a hat of flowers.
A cross made out of telephone poles. I would love one of these for my yard! I wonder if I could make one, hmm?
Attractive older building which anchors the "Old River" section of town.
Detail work from the working clock on down.
This building dates back to 1921.
Here is the park of all parks - Rocky River Reservation. Called the "valley" by locals, the area was carved out during the ice ages and consists of a river, walking paths, and winding road for fishing, picnicking, and many outdoor activities. Bill would ride his bike with friends to the "valley" to fish and just enjoy the outdoors.
A kayaker further up the river. As you can see there are many shallow sections which wouldn't accommodate power boats.
The old collapsed ford.
Picture of the old "ford" where cars would at one time have to cross the river. The ford has since been replaced by a bridge but you can see Bill in the background where he fished many times as a young boy.
Little chipmunk on the side of the road. Had hoped to get a close up shot to send to my mother.
The Emerald Necklace Marina sits in the valley of Cleveland's Rocky River Metropark.
Looking off of the back porch of the marina. Lots of areas to enjoy a meal and/or beverage.
Looking over the marina slips.
Loft style condos with large windows to enjoy the river scene.
A picture depicting the cliff area is below.
Bird's eye view of Rocky River from the bridge overpass.
Another view overlooking the river below.
After already hosting a family pizza party a couple nights prior at her home to celebrate our arrival into town, Bill's sister, Iris, insisted on treating us to dinner! So we headed to Burntwood Tavern the hottest restaurant in Rocky River. Iris's son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Cheryl, joined us as well to celebrate our last night in Cleveland. We had a ball with them!
The old stone wall adds character to the restaurant.
The hip bar scene.
Unique lampshade
on pendants which hung over the bar top.
A modern twist to a chandelier.
And, a smaller version by the front door.
Additional seating area on a covered porch which features a fireplace and sliding doors which can be closed during in-climate weather.
This works. The additional uses of pipes and an elbow.
